Welcome to my garden…
Recently, on Dear Gray, we have featured a number of beautiful coastal-themed shoots; today however we’re changing things up. We’re headed into what can only be described as a ‘Secret Garden’ type setting for this bridal inspiration which uses a soft, minimalist approach.
This feature comes to us from Melissa Blythe Photography who we met at a recent workshop and who thoroughly impressed us with her soft, natural and elegant style. What stood out to us about this inspirational shoot was the way that everything feels so effortless to look at. Almost as though our bride was simply found in a hidden-away place, enjoying her garden. As you look through this post notice the lush emerald-green plant life thriving on top of an antique brick foundation. It really made us feel as though we’d been transported into a poetic dream written by F. H. Burnett: don’t forget your diary.

As a lover of natural light and outdoor gatherings, specifically garden weddings, I knew that The Burgwin-Wright House & Gardens would serve as the perfect location for the vision I had in mind to inspire any future bride interested in a setting such as this one.
The Gardens are situated on the corner of a bustling downtown corner of the ever growing Wilmington, NC. The gardens are perfectly nestled in a way that if you aren’t intentionally looking for them you can easily pass by without even knowing that such a rich part of history sits among the newer and more modern buildings around the area. Once you enter through the garden gates you can’t help but to feel as if you have stepped into a completely different era. With weathered stone steps covered in a green moss and climbing vines throughout, one can only imagine the stories this place could tell.

The gown Sottero and Midgley is covered in beautiful little details. I particularly love the delicate bead-work. I feel like I could look at it for hours, and it sparkles ever-so-softly under our brides’ raven black hair. Make-up artist Rachel Davis and calligrapher Bergen Lauren both used their talents to create an elegant look to match my theme for the session of soft, serene and secret, which they did beautifully, thank you guys!!!

Oh, and did I mention that I adore this location so much that I actually chose it to have my own wedding portraits taken with my husband last year!
