Intimate, Biblical Inspired Wedding

  • May 20, 2017

Inspired by the biblical story in Joshua 3 and 4 when the Israelite’s were being led by God to cross the Jordan River, revealing his amazing power and protection, Martel Events pieced together a unique way for couples to incorporate scripture into their wedding day planning.  Natural elements, such as pure white rocks, were utilized to remind guests of God’s greatness through verbiage written by the couple on them.  Wedding guests will go home with a lasting impression from this wedding!   The rocks also represent inspiration taken from when God instructed Joshua to choose twelve men from each tribe to take up twelve stones in remembrance of His deliverance through the river.  This is a great representation of minimal wedding decor with a deeper purpose; starting from within the wedding ceremony and then traveling home with the wedding guests.  The same neutral theme was then woven into the bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, bridesmaid’s bouquet, and the reception table flowers created by Bowman & Clark.  We love the contrast of these hearty ferns and soft floral like Passion Vine and Jasmine mixed upon Sweet Pea, Scabiosa, and Spray Rose.

I am so excited to share this beautiful design by Marilisa Schachinger of Martel Event. When we met originally, I was inspired by the lush green landscape of the Northwest and wanted to tie that simple aesthetic to the Southeast. She beautifully spun the design into a full narrative.

My inspiration for this wedding editorial came from the story of the Israelites crossing the Jordan River in Joshua 3 & 4 of the Old Testament. God reveals his power, plan and protection by allowing Israel to cross what was a river “at flood stage all during harvest” on completely dry ground. Upon passing through the river, God instructs Joshua to choose 12 men, one from each tribe, to take up 12 stones from the middle of the river to serve as a sign of remembrance for his deliverance through the water. While many couples may choose to incorporate a scripture reading or even spiritual quotes throughout their wedding day signage, my hope was to cultivate an overall theme and feel for a wedding based on this biblical text and incorporate that throughout the design details.

Marriage is a journey and the wedding day is truly when you cross over from living as two independent people to living as one. As you celebrate this “beginning” remember and honor the people, blessings and challenges that brought you to that point. My vision for the ceremony was to have the couple surrounded by their stones of remembrance. The stones could be inscribed with the reminders of God’s faithfulness or the couple could read these reminders to one another during their vows. As a gift to guests, smooth stones at their place settings could be paperweight favors and a token of remembrance for their experience of the wedding day.

In working with Bowman & Clark, we wanted to keep the florals neutral and natural with shades of creams and greens. Their floral reciple included: Nagi, Passion Vine, Jasmine, Sword Fern, and Heather for greenery. For blooms, they utilized Lavender, Spray Rose (majolica), Godetia, Scabiosa (black and white), Helleborus, and Sweetpea.

For a couple who loves the outdoors and natural elements but prefers modern design, we thought to blend those elements with sleek, water-like gowns for both the bride + bridesmaid and a comfortable suit for the groom without a tie. The table decor was also a mix of styles showcasing Blue Eyed Yonder’s sleek dishware against I Do Linen’s textured tablecloth.
