Sundays Are For Lovers
I still remember the first time that I stumbled upon the clean, romantic aesthetic found in wedding photography by Marissa Joan Photo. It was through the suggested users of Instagram that Marissa’s work stood out to me and I just knew that we had to feature her work for our readers to fall in love with as I had. Marissa is a visionary and photographic artist at heart with a style that exudes minimalism so as to focus on the emotions she is capturing. When all of the colors in the world are competing for a bold contrast, she encapsulates the purity of love found inside her client’s sacred moments.
Today we see Marissa’s work as she enters the town home of her clients, nestled in the city of Toronto. With an editorial approach we follow along from their early morning rise into an afternoon of laughter inside a local coffee shop. Not only do we see the emotions being caught by Marissa, but she was so diligent in documenting elements in her client’s home that expressed their unique style. Soft tones can be found in florals by Minim Designs; sporadically placed around the couple’s home as well.

The beauty of Sundays is that we often have nowhere to be. So why not sleep in, enjoy a quiet moment with our loved ones, and go for a leisurely stroll in the neighbourhood.
This styled editorial was inspired by a laid back weekend feel, allowing lovers to truly enjoy and connect in the early hours of the day.
I met with Kaylee and Jamie, along with our florist, Kristina, in the early hours on a Sunday morning. We had a rough idea of where we wanted to capture their moments in their lovely downtown Toronto townhouse – the bedroom and the living room. Though this shoot was very much stylized, it was important for me to create a cohesive storyline for our session.

We started off capturing the couple in their room, spending quality time together in bed, getting ready in the morning, savouring those moments before they headed out to their favourite local coffee shop.
Kaylee and Jamie have inspiring chemistry and are so loving towards each other. Their strong connection brought authenticity to this styled shoot and almost felt effortless in terms of directing them. With some minor direction and a Motown playlist softly playing in the background, it set the mood and tone of our shoot together.
Shortly after our session, I packed up my gear, and Jamie kindly offered to walk me down the street towards the streetcar. He confessed that he had a big surprise for Kaylee in the coming weeks and had been secretly planning to propose to her!
I feel so honoured to be able to capture their love weeks before their special moment.
